KOPUTAROA SCHOOL
Established 1891
VISION : Nurturing confident, future focused learners
Haere Mai, Welcome to Koputaroa School
Koputaroa School (est. 1891) is a beautiful rural school located approximately 7 km north of Levin (New Zealand) between SH 1 and SH 57. We are a full primary, decile 6 school with a roll that fluctuates between 185 – 200.
Koputaroa (Koputoroa) is the name of the local settlement and in Māori it means Breast of the Albatross (Toroa). This name refers to the heavy fog that fills the valley, and from the hill near the Marae, looks like the breast of an albatross. Koputaroa School was originally called Kereru and the school’s emblem is a Kereru.
Koputaroa School Enrolments for 2024
Enrolment at Koputaroa School is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available from the school office.
The board has determined that up to 8 places are likely to be available for out-of-zone students in Year 1, up to 5 places in Year 3 and up to 3 places in Year 5 next year. The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s home zone.
Next year there will be four enrolment periods. The first enrolment period runs from 7 February to 12 April (Term 1)
For students seeking enrolment within the first enrolment period, the deadline for receipt of applications for out-of-zone places is Friday 13 October 2023.
Parents of students who live within the home zone and intend enrolling their child at any time during the next year should notify the school by 13 October to assist the school to plan appropriately for next year.
Application forms are available from the school office and can be delivered to the office or emailed to office@koputaroa.school.nz
If the number of out-of-zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. If a ballot for out-of-zone places is required, it will be held on Monday 30 October 2023. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.
